tubes snake

his mouth, his nose, other unspeakable places
one to release pressure
another to breathe life
into a nearly still body

chest rises
falls

a methodical rhythm so seductive
it seems almost right

rise and fall
such unnerving little lies.

the black crows
in their nests
beneath a sliver moon
they sing for me

i wonder if you know.

i can't look without seeing.

that's the whole point of drawing.

but i also can't unsee
what throbs behind my eyelids.

dark water.

it's almost as if
you are
being swept along
with the current
your head bobs
in
out
in
to
the black black water
like
tar
covering
every necessary part
lungs
never quite able
to regain breath
again.
